Engagement Story Contest Winners

Bride & Groom: Wedding Date:
Suzanne Mitele & Nick Brown October 12, 2007
Engagement Story:

Nick and I were high school sweethearts, so everyone, including myself, all knew that the proposal would come one day. And this year (2006) seemed like a very likely candidate. We had been talking about it much more seriously in the last two years, and he knows that Christmas is my favorite time of year, so this Christmas seemed like a possibility. I had been keeping my eye out for any unusual behavior or hints to when and where he might pop the question, but none seemed to turn up anywhere. Maybe it just was not the right year. I had just finished nursing school and we were short on cash, so financially this Christmas did not have the best potential.

Every year my family from New Mexico comes out to visit at Christmas time, and we all go into New York City for a day. We all love to walk around and see the city with its decoraions, and go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. This year we continued the tradition and went into the city on Saturday, December 23rd. We walked around the city, ate dinner, and then went ice skating. We all love to race around the rink, play tag, and have fun. About halfway into our skating, Nick came over to me and grabbed my hand. I was glad to slow down for a minute and skate with just him. It was a beautiful night. We skated over towards the center of the rink and he stopped. At this moment, I got butterflies in my stomach as Nick said to me, "Sue, you know I love you." I smiled back and a funny feeling came over me, just as Nick got down on his knee. There in the middle of the ice skating rink with hundreds of spectators watching on, Nick asked me to spend the rest of my life with him and be his wife. At that moment I did not hear anything or see anything else besides him. But when I looked up, I heard hundreds of clapping people and saw all of my family watching from above. Nick had both our families and friends come into the city to watch. They had all been hiding up above the rink. He knew that my family was so important to me, and that it would be complete if they had all been there. We all cried a little bit, and hugged alot. It could not have been anymore perfect, even if I had planned it myself. HE DID GOOD!
